Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  4. Add Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time until well combined.
  5. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  7. Scoop and Bake: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool: Remove from the oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, add chopped nuts or a sprinkle of sea salt on top.
